The Bon Fromage cheese festival, supported by the European Union, brought Australia’s largest-ever cheese board to Eveleigh’s Carriageworks in Sydney over the weekend.

More than 4000 Sydneysiders attended the two-day free festival, presented by the Centre National Interprofessionnel de l’Economie Laitiere (CNIEL), with the support of the European Union.

A half-tonne of European cheese was on offer, with attendees able to sample the many fine cheeses on offer, along with a selection of charcuterie, antipasto, and several wines. Cheese devotees could also purchase cheese, and they did – another half-tonne in the course of the weekend.

French cheese ambassador and cheesemonger Xavier Thuret was on hand to introduce the event, host masterclasses, and answer questions, and a number of Sydney’s European cheese vendors also held free masterclasses and demonstrations on the festival stage.
