Sydney police have swooped on members of an alleged international crime syndicate accused of dealing in stolen tins of Australian baby formula.

Six people have now been arrested in what police are calling an “expansive” network of stolen pharmaceutical products that includes baby formula that is being onsold in China for huge profit.

The criminal gang allegedly used a network of thieves who delivered goods back to locations in Sydney's Carlingford before it was sold overseas.

Police say critical information from “all the major retailers” helped investigators follow the trail back to the crime syndicate.

A Sydney family allegedly ran the expansive crime empire that stole and illegally exported thousands of tins of baby formula to China with police saying they raked in over a million dollars in just 12 months on the black market overseas.

Police searched two homes in Carlingford and seized 4000 tins of baby formula, large quantities of vitamins and manuka honey, all allegedly stolen.

They also seized more than $215,000 in cash, allegedly the proceeds of crime.
