Blue Diamond, the US maker of the newly launched dairy-free milk alternative Almond Breeze, has introduced a new chocolate-flavoured variant to the Australian market.

Though it sounds indulgent and is made from almonds like its predecessor, Chocolate Almond Breeze contains only 120 calories (500 kilojoules) per 250ml.

Flavoured versions are already successful in the US, according to Roger Ringwood, country director for Almond Breeze, who said Australian customers had already been asking about them.

“Qualitative research confirmed strong consumer interest and prompted Blue Diamond to introduce Chocolate Almond Breeze,” Ringwood said.

“We are thrilled with the success of Almond Breeze and are excited with the opportunity that the new chocolate version brings to the brand.”

Chocolate Almond Breeze is produced locally in Sydney and will be distributed by Freedom Foods, initially in Coles stores and other independent retailers such as IGA and expanding into other grocery outlets over the coming months. It will retail between $3.50 and $3.90.

Federal ministers yesterday convened an urgent industry roundtable on plastics supply chain pressures, placing packaging reform and domestic recycling capability firmly at the centre of discussions around Australia’s food security and manufacturing resilience.

The Australian Beverages Council has renewed calls for urgent national packaging reform, saying global supply disruptions highlight the need for stronger domestic recycling and harmonised EPR.
