Sunny Queen is expanding its free-range operation with a multi-million dollar free-range egg farm.

The new free-range egg farm is located on the outskirts of Toowoomba in southern Queensland, and has been many years in the planning, according to an ABC Online report.

Sunny Queen, a vertically integrated egg producer and processor, said the rising consumer demand for free-range eggs is behind the expansion.

The farm will have a stocking rate of 1500 birds per hectare on the new farm, significantly lower than the current industry standard of 10,000 birds per hectare.

The company recently built a new state-of-the-art processing facility at Carole Park in Queensland for the creation of ready-to-heat egg-based offerings for food service.
