The IXL jam brand and Taylors marinades have reportedly been put on the market by Coca-Cola Amatil's fruit and vegetable processor SPC Ardmona.

The sale was prompted by changing breakfast habits, according the Australian Financial Review (AFR), with sales of jams tumbling as consumers either skip breakfast or switch to shakes and smoothies.

SPC MD Reg Weine told the AFR the decision to explore a sale had followed the completion of a $100 million investment program co-founded by CCA and the Victorian government.

The sale of IXL and Taylors, which are both processed in Kyabram in Victoria's Goulburn River Valley, would free the company to focus on categories where SPC has a competitive advantage, such as canned tomatoes, fruit and baked beans and spaghetti, Weine said.

SPC bought both IXL and Taylors 14 years ago from US food company JM Smucker, which bought the business from John Elliott's Elders IXL 15 years earlier.

IXL is now the second biggest jam brand in Australia,  according to AFR, after Cottees, which is owned by Heinz.
