The 2021 Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Show awards have been announced, with Botany-based brewery, Slow Lane Brewing, winning Champion Packaged Beer, Best NSW Beer, and several other awards in their first year of entry.

Slow Lane Brewing founders Alex and Yvonne Jarman claimed a gold medal and two champions for their Threefold Belgian Tripel, silver medal for Solitude Belgian Dark Strong Ale, and a bronze medal for Botany Weisse Mixed Fermentation Sour Ale.
The competition saw a record number of 313 entries, with 183 gold, silver and bronze models awarded across the board.
Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Show chair of judges Sam Fuss thanked exhibitors, stewards, and NSW judges for persevering after the show experienced delays due to COVID-19.
“This year, we welcomed an increase in entries and new exhibitors, particularly in first-time classes like the experimental and specialty cider class, which is a fantastic reflection of the growth we are witnessing across the Australian beer and cider industry and the value our producers are placing on shows like the Sydney Royal.
“In addition to an increase in exhibitors, the competition also celebrated a rise in female judges with seven great female beer and cider experts driving the team forward,” Fuss said.
The show also presented:
- Champion Experimental or Speciality Beer to South East brewing company Kaiju!;
- Champion Draught Beer to Australian Brewery;
- Champion Perry to The Hills Cider Company; and
- Champion Cider and Champion Bottle Conditioned Perry or Cider to Small Acres Cyder.

Commenting on the top performer, Fuss said, “For our champions this year, Slow Lane Brewing certainly demonstrated their unique style and attention to detail with the Threefold Belgian Tripel, and as a first-time exhibitor, it’s incredible to see them take out both Champion Packaged and Best NSW Beer.”
