Simplot Australia has appointed a brand ambassador - vegetarian triathlete Charlotte McShane - for its meat substitute and frozen food brand, Quorn, which launched in Australia in 2010.

McShane is a Scottish-born professional triathlete and member of the Triathlon Australia high performance team. In this role, the twenty-two year-old will be sharing insights as a vegetarian and elite athlete over the coming months.

She will also make weekly appearances on the Quorn Facebook site, which has an audience of 18,000, as she competes around the world, and shares her healthy lifestyle tips and training updates.

The meat-free, soy-free Quorn is made with mycoprotein – a meat-free form of high quality protein and member of the fungi family.

Simplot's Quorn product range spans ingredients, meals and snacks. The range includes stir-fries, tacos, barbecues and curries and are found in the freezer section of supermarkets and also in the fresh chilled section of Coles supermarkets.

As well as being high in protein, many of its Quorn products are cholesterol free and high in fibre, according to the company.

“We are very proud to be supporting such an inspirational Australian athlete. Quorn provides a terrific alternative to vegetarians and we are thrilled to be behind Charlotte on her track to the next Commonwealth and Olympic Games,” said Simplot Australia general manager of retail marketing, Tara Lordsmith.

McShane is currently focused on representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games next year and in Rio de Janeiro at the 2016 Olympic Games.

She said, “As a vegetarian athlete I have been eating Quorn for a number of years as the products provide me with essential protein required as part of my performance and nutritional plan. More importantly, they are delicious too.”
