Methane-reducing feed additive developer, Sea Forest, has entered into an agreement with New South Wales-based farm, Avondale Ag, to supplement 5000 cattle with SeaFeed, for an initial term of 12 months.

Sea Forest was the first company in the world to cultivate Asparagopsis, a form of red seaweed with naturally occurring methane reduction properties. Its SeaFeed supplement was created from replicated bio actives from the seaweed, and has been pushing towards commercialisation for several years.

In 2025, the company landed an exclusive and long-term distribution agreement and partnership with Netherlands-based Orffa to access the European Union (EU) market. Sea Forest was listed on the ASX in November, after completing a fully underwritten $20.5 million Initial Public Offering. The company also reported strong first-half revenue growth and accelerating commercial traction for 2026.

There will be 5000 cattle supplemented under the new agreement with Avondale Ag, with the full cohort expected to be inducted onto SeaFeed by October 2026.

The agreement is for an initial term of 12-months, with an option for Avondale to extend on an ongoing basis. Under the agreement, Avondale Ag will exclusively supplement with SeaFeed, with no competing or similar products permitted for the duration of the contract.

Sea Forest co-founder and CEO, Sam Elsom, said the company is proud to be partnering with family-owned Australian farming businesses like Avondale Ag.

“(Avondale Ag) shares our focus on sustainable and responsible farming practices,” said Elsom.

“This agreement reflects the strong momentum and engagement we continue to see from farmers and producers across the country, driven by both the positive environmental outcomes and productivity benefits of SeaFeed. We have a strong pipeline of new customers and expect to have more customers signed over the coming months.”

According to Sea Forest, SeaFeed has been proven to generate productivity gains of over 6 per cent, while reducing methane emissions in ruminant livestock by up to 80 per cent. The new deal will bring the total number of livestock under agreement to be supplemented with SeaFeed to approximately 123,000.

The federal government is currently developing a new Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme livestock method with Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), which will allow farmers to earn ACCUs through low-emissions livestock management – including with methane-reducing feed additives.

Elsom said the inclusion of methane-abating livestock feed additives in the ACCU program would be a game changer for Australian producers and farmers, and Sea Forest expected to see an increase in demand for SeaFeed across multiple livestock sectors.
