Consolidation is underway in the Australian coffee category with Schibello acquiring two mid-size specialty roasters.

Anthross, the company behind Schibello Caffe brand, has acquired Brisbane-based Cleanskin Coffee Co and Sydney company Artecaffe Coffee Roasters.

Schibello says the acquisitions will result in a fifty per cent increase in roasting throughput and will lift its EBIT by $3m in FY16.

They will also give the company a stronger presence in the Brisbane and Sydney specialty markets, and access to boutique coffee-based products such as Cold Brew RTDs, the Hario brand and consumer products.

Cleanskin Coffee Co is a roaster and coffee training destination located 30 minutes north of Brisbane.

Artecaffe Coffee Roasters sells premium artesian coffee and offers a high level of personal service to its customers. Its roastery is located in Hornsby, Sydney.

Schibello CEO Ross Schinella said that in addition to increased coffee roasting capacity and EBIT, Cleanskin Coffee Co “complements and extends the company’s existing market penetration” while Artecaffe “adds to the strength of the specialty market in NSW”.
