Pure Foods Tasmania (PFT) has commenced contract manufacturing for Sydney-based smoked seafood producer Brilliant Food Australia, in a strategic step to increase utilisation at its Woodbridge Smokehouse facility in southern Tasmania.
Brilliant Food Australia supplies premium smoked seafood products to hospitality, specialty retail and gourmet food channels, and the move is expected to remove previous production bottlenecks and support expansion into new geographies.
Production has already commenced, with initial runs completed and finished product successfully dispatched interstate. The contract is expected to deliver a meaningful uplift in site revenue relative to FY25, based on Brilliant Food Australia’s historical production volumes.
Manufacturing is being undertaken using PFT’s existing Woodbridge Smokehouse infrastructure and workforce, increasing throughput and improving economies of scale at the site. The arrangement is structured on a cost-plus pricing model, designed to ensure recovery of labour, overheads and operating costs while maintaining margin discipline and limiting downside risk from input cost volatility.
Initial production runs began in late November 2025, following site preparation and onboarding between the two parties.
As part of the agreement, Brilliant Food Australia will participate in a $100,000 placement at 3.5 cents per share, subject to shareholder approval and ASX requirements.
The shares will be subject to a 12-month voluntary escrow period, with funds allocated to working capital and production ramp-up at Woodbridge.
PFT said the contract aligns with its broader strategy to improve asset utilisation across its manufacturing footprint and selectively pursue contract manufacturing opportunities that complement existing operations.
The agreement also has regional economic implications, with production transitioning from Sydney to Tasmania. PFT expects the arrangement to create at least four new skilled roles across production, quality assurance and logistics, while increasing demand for Tasmanian primary produce and strengthening the state’s premium food manufacturing capability.
The company said it would provide further updates as production volumes scale and the partnership progresses.
