Winners of the 2025 round of the annual Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) Awards were announced at a gala night celebration for packaging professionals from across Australia and New Zealand.

The annual event, hosted by the Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP), honours outstanding achievements in packaging design and innovation, recognising the individuals and companies leading the charge in excellence and sustainability across the industry.

In 2025, the following categories spotlighted packaging finalists and winners from the food and beverage sector:

The following categories are also featured at the PIDA Awards, however, there are no food and beverage finalists or winners.

Without further ado, the food and beverage winners are as follows.

FOOD PACKAGING DESIGN

The Food Packaging Design award recognises organisations that have designed innovative packaging and/or materials within food packaging and processing including fresh, frozen or other. This is a WorldStar Packaging General award category.

Macro Health Food Box-Bottom Paper Bags by Woolworths Food Co. came out on top, receiving the Gold award.

The Silver award went to Australian Organic Food Co. Vanilla Custard Mono Material Retort Pouch by Flavour Makers and Cheer Pack Asia Pacific, and the Bronze award went to Opal's paper-based food and fresh produce punnet

Two High Commendations were awarded to Gippsland Dairy Crafted Range 150g by Chobani; and KFC Go Bucket Paper Lid by KFC Australia and Detpak.

BEVERAGE PACKAGING DESIGN

The Beverage Packaging Design award recognises organisations that have designed innovative packaging and/or materials within packaging and processing for liquid or dry tea, coffee, water, soft drinks, wine, beer and spirits. This is a WorldStar Packaging General award category.

Taking home the Gold award was FSC Certified Home Compostable PHA Cups by BioPak.

The Bronze award went to Smooth moulded fibre cup lids by Huhtamaki; while the Silver award went to TetherSafe by Caps & Closures. A High Commendation was awarded to Hidden Story Pinot Grigio Bagnum by Victorian Alps Wine Co. and Auspouch Australia.

LABELLING & DECORATION DESIGN

The 2025 Labelling & Decoration Design award recognises the addition of content to a pack which creates a unique or innovative appearance, function or communication. This may include labels, sleeves, tags, coding/markings, etching, directly applied inks or by any other similar process. This is a WorldStar Packaging General award category.

And the winners are...

Taking home the Gold award was Carman's Gourmet Snack Mix by Carman's Fine Foods and Zipform Packaging.

The Bronze award went to Jiffy Padded Lite mailer by Amazon Australia and Sealed Air Australia; while the Silver award went to Certified Compostable FSC Paper Beer BioCups by BioPak.

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING DESIGN

The Sustainable Packaging Design award is designed to recognise companies that have developed innovative packaging or processing solutions that incorporate sustainability considerations. Elements include social, material, source reduction, energy and recovery. This is a WorldStar Packaging Special Award category.

Due to the high number of entries across varying Sustainable Packaging Design principles, the judges separated the winners into eight subset activities. This year there are nine Gold Sustainable Packaging Design winners, and six Bronze and Silver awardees.

The subset categories awarded are:

  • Certified Compostable
    Taking home the Gold award for Sustainable - Certified Compostable was FSC Certified Home Compostable PHA Cups by BioPak.
  • Display-Ready Packaging
    Taking home the Gold award for Sustainable - Display-Ready Packaging was M&Ms Display-Ready Packaging by Mars and Birdstone Collective.
  • Minimise Litter
    Taking home the Gold award for Sustainable - Minimise Litter was TetherSafe by Caps & Closures.
  • Mono-Material Advancements
    The Bronze award went to Hidden Story Pinot Grigio Bagnum by Victorian Alps Wine Co. and Auspouch Australia; while the Silver award went to AmPrima Recycle-ready packaging for shredded cheese by Amcor Flexibles. Taking home the Gold award for Sustainable - Mono-Material Advancements was Australian Organic Food Co. Vanilla Custard Mono Material Retort Pouch by Flavour Makers and Cheer Pack Asia Pacific.
  • PFAS Reduction
    Taking home the Gold award for Sustainable - PFAS Reduction was ADAMA Plasma Coating Technology by Pact Group.
  • Plastics Alternative
    The Bronze award went to Advantage 9um Pallet Wrap by Bunzl Australia and New Zealand; while the Silver award went to SCA Globes and Bulbs by Supercheap Auto. Taking home the Gold award for Sustainable - Plastics Alternative was Macro Health Food Box-Bottom Paper Bags by Woolworths Food Co.
  • Recycled Content
    The Bronze award went to Weed n Feed On Hose 4L by Yates; while the Silver award went to Woolworths Poultry Trays by Inghams Enterprises and Woolworths Food Co. Taking home the Gold award for Sustainable - Recycled Content was SULO Circular Mobile Rubbish Bins by Pact Group.
  • Reuse & Refill
    Taking home the Gold award for Sustainable - Reuse & Refill was Katermaster Regen reusable food container by Bunzl Australia and New Zealand.

ABA SCHOLARSHIPS

The Australasian Bioplastics Association (ABA), in partnership with the AIP, offers an annual Scholarship program for Australia and New Zealand.

The Scholarship program will enable one eligible candidate the opportunity to undertake a Diploma in Packaging Technology and a second person the opportunity to undertake a Certificate in Packaging.

The 2025 ABA Scholarship Certificate in Packaging winner was Pippa Corry, founder and director of philo & co, and the ABA Scholarship Diploma in Packaging Technology winner was Ransheema Rita, packaging technologist at Synlait Milk Limited.

The PIDA Awards are the exclusive feeder program for Australia and New Zealand for the WorldStar Packaging Awards run by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO). All 2025 PIDA winners will be automatically eligible for entry into the 2026 WorldStar Packaging Awards competition.
