Parima has completed the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) core safety assessment, after applying in November for its cell cultured duck to be approved as a food ingredient in the Australian market.

Based in Paris, Gourmey acquired another French company, Vital Meat, last October to form Parima, aiming to be a new European champion for cultivated proteins and foods. The new company brings together Gourmey’s high-value duck and poultry cell lines and Vital Meat’s scalable cell-based chicken production, ready to tackle large-volume production, supply chain integration, and cost parity with high-value meats.

Gourmey remains the company’s culinary brand, focusing on premium cultivated foods co-developed with Michelin-starred chefs worldwide.

Parima is now the second company in the world to reach this FSANZ approval stage in the ANZ region, after Sydney-based biotech company Vow’s landmark approval for its cultured quail products last June – making Australia and New Zealand the fourth country globally to achieve this under specific circumstances, after Singapore, Israel, and the US.

It marks another major regulatory landmark for Parima, which has had its production platform validated across two species and in two distinct jurisdictions, after landing approvals for its cultivated chicken and duck by the Singapore Food Agency in October 2025 and April 2026.

Parima co-founder and CEO, Nicolas Morin-Forest, said the achievement is the result of years of hard work by the company’s team.

“We are incredibly grateful to FSANZ for the efficiency of their review process. With this critical step passed, we are now in the final stages of the process pending public consultation and final approval,” said Morin-Forest.
