McGuigan Wines has released a new super-premium red that it says is raising the bar for the business and the Australian wine industry.

At the launch of The Philosophy, a $150 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz, McGuigan's chief winemaker and Australian Vintage CEO, Neil McGuigan said the wine was the result of over a decade of dedication.

Last year, McGuigan Wines, which is owned by Australian Vintage, released the inaugural 2010 vintage release of The Philosophy. The latest release was aged in French and American oak for two years prior to bottling, and spent a further two years in bottle.

The Cabernet was sourced from small parcels of super premium fruit from Langhorne Creek and Clare Valley. The Shiraz portion came from the Clare Valley and the Barossa Hills.

McGuigan said he's spent 10 years developing The Philosophy. To create this quality of wine took vision, strength, passion and drive, he said, and the benefits of this would flow through to the company's entire portfolio, including its biggest selling entry level Black Label range, and its other premium ranges, The Shortlist, Hand Made and Farms.

McGuigan described these wines as “part of the journey to The Philosophy”.

“This is a financial commitment to our own industry,” he said. “It helps our business and also Australia.”
