Macadamia industry participants have joined forces to launch a new product competition that aims to encourage innovation.

The inaugural Australian Macadamias Innovation Challenge, which takes place this week at Byron Bay, is being run by industry body Australian Macadamias and seeks to support local growers and raise awareness of the versatility of home-grown macadamias globally.

Entries were sought from “innovative minds in the science, food and manufacturing industries to propose new and unique products that highlight our native nut, to inspire packaged food product development using macadamias”.

Entries are being judged by Brookfarm co-founder Pamela Brook, Gelato Messina founder Nick Palumbo, Infinity Bakery co-founder and owner William Petersen, and Dr Barry McGookin, food technologist, PhD in Food Science, and general manager of Innovation, Food Innovation Australia.
