South Australian entrepreneur, Sarsha Harvey, has expanded Local Kitchen Co – a ready-to-eat meal company she started in her kitchen in 2019 – after taking over the former Bedford Industries’ ‘Cultivate’ site at Brooklyn Park.
With a new kitchen and headquarters, Harvey has capacity to expand operations and reach further into regional SA, including supplying meals to country towns.
From the kitchen to her first commercial and retail site at Malvern, Harvey has grown to now operate six locations – Malvern, Parkside, Glenelg, Modbury, Port Elliot and Brooklyn Park.
Local Kitchen Co will also be moving into the new Adelaide Central Markets precinct when it opens in late 2026.
“While we began preparing meals for busy families pre-COVID, our business has boomed and has not looked back,” Harvey explained.
“Many of our clients are now retirees, busy professionals and people looking to feed families, along with providing meals via the NDIS and the Support at Home government-funded programs, where they can buy subsidised ready-to-eat meals via meal preparation services.
“This segment of the market will continue to grow, particularly as retirees, our ageing population and people living with disability seek out cost-effective, nutritious meals which can be delivered, saving them having to cook.”
Local Kitchen Co will now focus on regional SA, where it can be difficult to access ready-to-eat meals or find a variety of quality options people are looking for in supermarkets.
“We know Meals on Wheels has also stopped operating in some areas, leaving some ageing South Australians unable to access a service which will provide nutritious, locally-prepared meals,” she added.
“All of our produce is proudly South Australian, and we want to share that with a wider range of people, saving them time, energy and effort, but also ensuring they have high-quality meals meeting their nutritional requirements.”
Local Kitchen Co is now supplying meals of all sizes to thousands of South Australian families, older couples and singles on a weekly basis.
