Lion has announced the winners for its annual trans-Tasman Supplier Recognition Awards, recognising the suppliers and lasting partnerships that keep the beverage giant up and running.

Awards were presented for Packaging, Ingredients, Logistics, Engineering/Site Services, Technology, Diversity, and Sustainability, recognising the leading supplier in each category. The awards criteria are based on delivery performance, quality, customer service and feedback.

Lion Group CEO, Sam Fischer, said the Awards are all about recognition and celebrating the massive role the company’s partners play in its success.

“Without our partners we simply cannot achieve our ambitions both in sales, and against our Force for Good strategy,” said Fischer.

“We can only be a great supplier to our customers if we have great partners working with us, who share our joint commitment to be the best people to do business with.”

This year’s Supplier of the Year Award was awarded to Visy Glass – Australia and New Zealand's largest manufacturer of recycled glass bottles and long-term partner of the Lion Group.

Earlier this year, the recycling company opened the country's first oxygen-fuelled glass furnace at its facility in Penrith, Western Sydney. At a cost of $150 million, the furnace uses less than half the energy than the one it replaced, and produces over 800 million glass containers every year.

Lion chief procurement officer, Jonathon Llewellyn, said Visy Glass was a winner of three awards last night, which is reflective of the exceptional standard the company consistently delivers.

“We wish to congratulate not only the Visy Glass team, but all finalists and winners of awards for their ongoing commitment, dedication and hard work they put into our partnerships,” said Llewellyn.

“We need those partnerships more than ever to continue to provide consumers with high quality products and deliver our commitment to do the right thing for the long term.”

Packaging News

The merger between packaging giants Amcor and Berry is now complete, with the all-scrip deal creating a company with some 400 packaging plants, and 75,000 staff, located in 140 countries.

Pact Group is facing softening demand in Q4, citing Donald Trump’s tariffs, the ongoing domestic cost of living pressures, and supply chain disruption with shipping container supply tightening.

Raphael Geminder is following through on his stated intention to delist Pact Group in light of his failed takeover of the company, and has set 16 July as the date he wants it off the ASX.
