The federal government has called for grant submissions under the Collaborative Stream of the Modern Manufacturing Initiative. The stream has $800 million to go towards large scale projects.

Guidelines for the funding round were launched in July.

The Collaboration Stream is for large-scale manufacturers with a minimum $60.6 million in project expenditure. The grants cover up to 33 per cent of eligible project expenditure, ranging from $20 million to $200 million.

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Christian Porter said the government will invest in projects within the six national manufacturing priority areas to help manufacturers scale and create jobs.

The six priority sectors are: medical products; clean energy and recycling; food and beverage; defence; space and resource technology; and critical minerals processing.

“Through the Collaboration Stream, we are determined to co-invest in industry-led proposals that will transform our National Manufacturing Priority areas, by encouraging manufacturers to move up the value chain to higher value, higher margin activities, including drawing on our world class research,” said Porter.

Porter said the focus was on private and public investment to create pathways and incentives for manufacturers to collaborate, scale up, move towards higher valued activities; and become more competitive.

Applications close on 9 September.
