The seventh iteration of the James Squire Hop Thief Varietal Series - Hop Thief 7 - has been launched by the Lion-owned brand.

The American-style Pale Ale is made at the Malt Shovel Brewery in Camperdown, Sydney, and the brewers there say they select the best hops that are available each season to create a new release of the American-style Pale Ale.

Hop Thief 7 uses a combination of Mosaic and Galaxy hops, and the head brewer at Malt Shovel Brewery, Chris Sheehan said: “We’ve tried to bring something different to the mix this year with the use of these two hop varieties.

“We’ve used Galaxy hops to deliver a vibrant citrus and passionfruit aroma, and then added Mosaic hops which add pine notes and strong, earthy undertones.”

Sheehan said the previous Hop Thief release was very popular, so they needed to make sure they came up with an equally flavoursome successor.

“We’ve worked hard on this brew and believe we’ve created a beer adult Australians will love,” said Sheehan.

The Hop Thief Varietal Series pays homage to Australia’s first brewer and first-fleet convict, James Squire.

Hop Thief 7 will be available in-pack and on-tap nationwide in selected venues and outlets from March, and the Hop Thief Varietal Series will continue in 2016, evolving to Hop Thief 8.
