Distributor of speciality chemicals and food ingredients IMCD has released its first sustainability report for the full year of 2018. It provides information on energy consumption, water use and emissions in a bid to “lift the veil” on its non-financial data.

The report found sustainability in transport, raw materials and recycling, and in the supply chain were all among high importance to be re-assessed.

Before the end of 2019, IMCD will introduce the IMCD Sustainable Solutions program, working with suppliers to asses product portfolio per business and determine which products are deemed as “‘sustainable’ by our standards”.

Products will be assessed on sales price or contribution to the total cost of ownership for customers, as well as their “potential to reduce environmental impact or circular economy contribution”.

The company is aiming to deliver a 15 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per operating EBITDA by 2024 in comparison to its base year 2019.
