Family-owned confectionery company Haigh's Chocolates has celebrated its centenary with the launch of a book that charts its 100-year history.

The book, Enjoyed for Generations, was written by food historian Barbara Santich, and presents a historical journey of Haigh’s Chocolates and the chocolate industry over the last century.

Since it was founded in 1915, four generations of Haigh's have run the South Australian premium chocolate and confectionery company.

The book tells the story of the Haigh family, the business, and the history of the chocolate making process in Australia.

“Not many businesses have lasted one hundred years in one family,” said the company’s CEO and fourth-generation South Australian chocolatier, Alister Haigh at the book launch.

He said few records were kept in the company's early days, so a lot of research was required.

The company also has its eye on the future – Haigh's Chocolates recently became the first company in Australia to invest in Baxter, an uncaged collaborative robot to help boost efficiency on the production line.

Haigh told Food & Drink Business that the Baxter robot is still being tested and is expected to go live next year.
