Global flavours and fragrance company, Givaudan, is closing its Australian manufacturing site and moving it offshore. The closure will be implemented over 18 months and will see the loss of around 66 jobs.
A spokesperson told Food & Drink Business the company had identified the need to “consolidate production from the Smithfield site into other locations”.
“We continually assess how we can best serve our customers and strengthen our long-term competitiveness in an increasingly dynamic market.
“Regrettably, following extensive consultation with employees and union representatives, we will proceed to move production from the Smithfield site offshore and retire operations at the site,” she said.
The transition of Smithfield’s production other locations will happen across an 18-month period.
“While we are saddened by this decision, the business transformation and consolidation are expected to result in approximately 66 roles becoming redundant over this period.”
Givaudan Australia operations began in 1964. In 2024 it employed around 130 people and had two sites in New South Wales, one being the Smithfield facility, and one in Victoria.
“We recognise the significant impact this will have on our people, and our immediate priority is to support those affected. We are committed to working closely with employees throughout the transition, including exploring potential redeployment opportunities wherever possible and providing career transition support to assist them in securing future employment.”
