Ice cream chain Gelatissimo has released a gelato variety that both dogs and their owners can enjoy.

The new Doggie Gelato flavour is a dairy-free, gluten-free gelato with flavours of peanut nougat.

The treat has been made to be safe for a dog's digestion and gentle on stomachs.

Master gelato-maker Anna Temellini said it was important for Gelatissimo to innovate its range further.

"We had a very talented team behind this creation, and a lot of work and research went into ensuring we mastered the perfect flavour while also keeping the product safe and edible," she said.

“We’re really proud to be able to welcome dogs into our stores and give them the opportunity to become even more a part of the family.”

Doggie Gelato is available from 26 March.
