The City of Greater Geelong and Geelong Manufacturing Council (GMC) are creating a new Food and Agribusiness Network to help local industries to develop markets and capitalise on export opportunities across the globe.
With more than 10,000 manufacturing jobs in the Geelong region – the highest number in over a decade – and food and beverage manufacturing making up almost a fifth of these jobs, the industry is ready for a push.
Greater Geelong Mayor, Stretch Kontelj, said the region has all the right ingredients to grow its reputation as an international city.
“Our manufacturing and agribusiness export history is rich, with many amazing business success stories supplying Geelong’s products to Australia and the world,” said Kontelj.
“The Food and Agribusiness Network will provide opportunities to increase interconnectivity within the industry as well as sharing practical knowledge.”
This partnership cements both organisations' continued support for the region’s economic growth and export capabilities by increasing connectivity between local businesses and encouraging knowledge sharing across operations, product innovation, supply chains and business growth.
The City and GMC announced the network at a recent joint Exports Forum for food, beverage and agribusiness processors and manufacturers across the region.
GMC chief executive, Jenn Conley, said the region is home to some outstanding food and agribusiness manufacturers.
“This network will help harness that experience by fostering stronger industry connections and creating opportunities to share the incredible knowledge and expertise that exists here,” said Conley.
“The Food and Agribusiness Network will deliver a range of initiatives – including industry tours, events, and briefings – focused on sharing practical insights into advanced manufacturing processes, business growth, commercial operations, supply chain and export development.”
