Joanne Van Den Berg will take on the role as Frucor Suntory’s new head of safety and wellbeing. She joins the team after holding several previous safety roles at Air New Zealand and the Department of Corrections.

Van Den Berg will be based in Auckland with a mission to encourage the team’s health, safety, and wellbeing passion to enable better work through a healthier and safer work environment.

“I want safety to be part of our DNA – a core value we embrace, where safety is inherent in all our systems and processes, people instinctively operate safely and challenge others to do the same. A workplace where our people can truly thrive,” she said.

“Ultimately, safety is about people. It’s about embracing the things that go right and collaborating to find solutions so we can all go home to our families and friends safe and well, healthy in mind and body, each and every day.”

In her recent role at the Department of Corrections, Van Den Berg led the safety and wellbeing response amid the COVID-19 outbreak, where she encouraged strong collaboration and agile thinking, key to ensuring the department operated safely and staff were supported.

She also worked on a two-year project with Air New Zealand, which focused on empowering the airline’s health and safety reps “so they felt able to raise issues and work with leaders on solutions for identified risks – ultimately helping drive an engaged safety culture”.

It was awarded WorkSafe New Zealand/ACC best overall contribution to improving workplace health and safety in New Zealand at the Safeguard Awards in 2019.

Frucor Suntory was ranked #82 in the Top 100 Australia Food and Drink Companies 2019 report.
