As manufacturers look for ways to reduce packaging waste while improving flexibility, digital printing is opening new opportunities for customisation and shorter production runs. At foodpro 2026, Lindy Hughson spoke with Matt Johnson from Trimatt Systems about the Australian company's latest digital printing technologies and how they are helping food producers simplify packaging operations.

Among the highlights are the ColourStar AQV system, which prints full-colour graphics directly onto paper-based packaging, and the new Trimatt Mini TTO for high-quality printing onto plastic and foil pouches. Johnson explains how direct-to-package printing can reduce packaging inventories, eliminate the need for labels and enable rapid product changes, while also showcasing a new direct-to-food colour printer that expands branding possibilities for food manufacturers.
