New Zealand flour manufacturer, Champion Flour Milling, has hired the country’s first female miller. Huzeinat Shidi is not afraid of firsts, having been the first female miller in Nigeria, before she emigrated to New Zealand.

Shidi graduated from the Swiss Milling School in Switzerland, renowned for its world-class grain million training.

Champion Flour Milling country manager, Chris Anderson, said, “Huzeinat is an exceptional and passionate miller who is a positive addition to the Champion team. As the first female miller in New Zealand, Huzeinat has established herself as a milling expert and brilliant mentor. She has a bright future ahead of her at Champion.”

Shidi said she was grateful for the opportunity with Champion.

“Champion excels in ‘baking the future from flour’ thanks to its diverse and expert team. It is wonderful to witness the gender diversity across the site from female assistants in milling, to forklift drivers. I am excited about my career here,” Shidi said.

Champion Flour Milling has been operating for more than 150 years, producing more than 40 types of flour to domestic and international markets.

Packaging News

The World Packaging Organisation has named 234 winners for the WorldStar Packaging Awards 2026, which were selected from 481 entries submitted across 36 countries.

ACOR is calling on the Government to urgently introduce packaging reforms or risk the collapse of Australia’s plastic recycling sector and face millions of tonnes of plastic waste polluting the environment.

As 2025 draws to a close, it is clear the packaging sector has undergone one of its most consequential years in over a decade. Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.
