The finalists for the Australia Post Online Retail Industry Awards (ORIAS) have been announced, with Lyre’s Spirits Co, Naked Wines Australia and Adventure Snacks representing local suppliers in the food and beverage sector. 

The awards highlight the excellence of Australasia’s vibrant online retailing visionaries, with up to six finalists were announced in each category.

The categories include:

  • Australia Post People’s Choice Awards (Small Retailer under $100,000 annual revenue, Small Retailer over $100,000 and under $1m annual revenue; and Large Retailer over $1m annual revenue); 
  • Best Pureplay Retailer; 
  • Best Small Independent Retailer; 
  • Best Multichannel Retailer; 
  • Best Online Retail Marketing; 
  • Best In-Store Initiative; 
  • Technology Champion; 
  • Customer Service Excellence; 
  • Best Small Independent Retailer; 
  • Best Social Commerce Initiative; 
  • International Conqueror; 
  • Hall of Fame; 
  • Online Retailer of the Year, and 
  • the Industry Recognition Award. 

Adventure Snacks is among the finalists in the Best Small Independent Retailer category, while Naked Wines Australia is a finalist for Best Online Retail Marketing, and Lyre's Spirit Co for International Conqueror.

“The ORIAS are proving to be Australia’s showpiece e-commerce event. We’re thrilled that we can recognise retailers who are constantly adapting and evolving to ensure that they succeed in today’s modern marketplace,” said event director Matt Smith.

“The judges undertook a rigorous process to determine the finalists, and each entry was evaluated according to a number of exacting criteria.”

“We continue to see a tremendous growth in recognition and unique entrants due to our long established stance in the industry, and through our ongoing partnership with Australia Post and the People’s Choice Awards.”

In its 12th year, the ORIAS will announced the 2021 winners at a gala dinner at the ICC on July 22.

The ACCC has instituted court proceedings against Clorox Australia, owner of GLAD-branded kitchen and garbage bags, over alleged false claims that bags were partly made of recycled 'ocean plastic'.

In news that is disappointing but not surprising given the recent reports on the unfolding Qenos saga, the new owner of Qenos has placed the company into voluntary administration. The closure of the Qenos Botany facility has also been confirmed.

An agreement struck between Cleanaway and Viva Energy will see the two companies undertake a prefeasibility assessment of a circular solution for soft plastics and other hard-to-recycle plastics.
