An organic hot dog product from certified organic and free-range meat brand Cleaver’s has won the top gong at the Australian Certified Organic Awards.

The product won Certified Organic Food Product of the Year at the annual awards out of eight finalists.

Cleaver's grass-fed certified organic beef hot dogs were launched by Cleaver’s brand ambassador Pete Evans in May this year, and have been warmly received by consumers, according to the company.

This award category included a requirement that the product be manufactured or grown entirely in Australia, and the product is a traditional American style skinless ‘dog’ with organic spices, organic vegetable extracts and organic beef sourced from Australian family farms.

In 2015 Cleaver’s won the same award for its paleo beef sausages from its ‘Back 2 Basics’ range.

“We are thrilled to consolidate our organic hot dog’s success in the market with such a highly regarded award,” said Alister Ferguson , the CEO of Arcadian Organic, which is Cleaver’s parent company.

“The Cleaver’s brand has been fully committed to the Australian organic industry since 1998. We work continuously with local organic suppliers to help grow the organic market in Australia.

“We enjoy strong customer loyalty across the entire Cleaver’s range, but the hot dogs have really set the bar high.”

Cleaver’s Organic beef hot dogs are available in selected Coles, Woolworths and Independent retail stores in Queensland, Victoria, NSW, South Australia and Western Australia.

Ferguson said the brand is now making plans for the product to be accessible to organisations such as school and sports club canteens.

“With the growing demand for organic food, and to satisfy the increasingly health conscious consumer, expanding its availability is a natural progression for this product,” Ferguson said

“The increasing trend for healthier food options in school and sports club canteens is testament to the increasing desire to provide families and children with better meal choices.”
