Simplot Australia says it expects to receive orders from across the globe after introducing its iconic Chiko Roll to the world’s largest export trade fair Anuga in Germany.

It was the first time that Simplot Australia took the iconic Aussie snack out to the world – in this case to an estimated 160,000 visitors from the world's retail and foodservice markets.

The Chiko Roll was a hit at the show, according to its maker, with interest in the product described as “overwhelming and above expectations”.

"We have lots of great leads from all corners of the globe - Italy, Korea, Algeria, Japan, Canada, Poland, UK, Finland, India and France just to name a few,” Simplot's snacks general manager Adam Hanlon said.

"We've been making Chiko since the 1950's, but the rest of the world is impressed by our innovation."

Hanlon said he expects orders to be confirmed over the coming weeks.

Chiko also debuted its stable mate the Chiko Corn Jack at the show, and Simplot Australia managing director Graham Dugdale said this was the “first step in expanding the global footprint of Australia’s most famous hot snack as well as raising the profile of Australian manufacturing expertise”.

“Chiko’s home is take away, sports games and other outdoors events and we think it has its place in similar venues all over the world.”

Over 7,400 companies from 107 countries exhibited at Anuga, which ran from 7 to 11 October in Cologne, Germany.
