The Brewers Association of Australia CEO, Amanda Watson, has stepped down from the role. Watson, who became CEO in July 2025, said she was pursuing a different career direction.
Brewers Association chair, James Brindley, said the board was disappointed to lose her, but respected and supported her decision. the thanked Watson for her contribution to the Association and the broader brewing sector, saying while the.
Watson said her time in the sector had been “a fascinating experience”, describing brewing as an industry that makes “an incredible contribution to the economic and social fabric of Australia”. Prior to the BAA, Watson was the former deputy chief of staff to the federal communications minister, Amanda Watson.
She was proud of the achievements she made while CEO, including work to navigate legislation for the beer excise freeze announced by the federal government in the 2025 Budget. Watson also highlighted strengthened engagement with government, parliament and industry that were developed during her tenure.
“Importantly the Association’s recent work under my leadership has laid a strong foundation for further reform to support the important work of the brewing industry,” Watson said, adding that with the Association “in a strong position”, it was the right time to pursue new opportunities.
Brindley said Watson brought “high energy, fresh perspective and a partner-led approach” and credited her background in policy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement with lifting the Association’s profile and increasing strategic engagement.
The Association’s board is now recruiting for the role.
