SPC, Ardmona, Helga’s, Vetta, Devondale, Primo, Sanitarium, Nescafe, Flora, Continental and Mount Franklin have each committed to donating food or beverages to Foodbank as part of its month-long campaign to help Australia's hungry.

Every time a customer purchases one of the companies' select products from Woolworths during the month of August, a donation will be made to Foodbank as part of its Food Fight campaign.

In its first year last year, the campaign saw seven million serves of food donated.

According to Foodbank, hunger affects one in six Australians at some point every year.

Half of these, or two million Australians, seek food relief from a charity or community group, and a third of those seeking food relief are children.

Each month Foodbank provides food for over half a million people but, despite this, 43,000 of those seeking help are turned away empty handed because demand outstrips supply.

The Food Fight campaign helps raise awareness of the issue of hunger in Australia while securing additional food donations.

There will also be a large art installation in the form of an empty lunchbox appearing in cities around the country.

Visitors will be asked to take pictures of the purple lunchbox and upload them to social media using the #JoinFoodFight hashtag.

Lunch box locations can be found here.
