Baiada Poultry has completed a national network infrastructure overhaul to strengthen operational resilience and cybersecurity visibility across its vertically integrated supply chain, from breeding farms and feed mills through to processing plants and distribution facilities.
The project was delivered by Australian cybersecurity and network services provider Ip.Glass in partnership with Fortinet, and involved deploying Fortinet Secure SD-WAN, next-generation firewalls, upgraded switching, and a wireless refresh across Baiada’s IT and operational technology (OT) environments.
Baiada Poultry operates around the clock, with one of Australia’s largest poultry production footprints. The company said minutes of downtime can disrupt production, logistics, and supply continuity across its network of sites.
Baiada Poultry CIO, Wayne Ellison, said, “Baiada Poultry is a seconds and minutes business; continuity of supply is everything to us. We need a partner that can move quickly, understand our operations, and deliver technology that will stand up to harsh operational environments. Ip.Glass has the agility, speed, and expertise to help us achieve that.”
The engagement began with a network segmentation and security program to isolate critical systems. That foundation supported the broader modernisation, which unified Baiada’s firewall, SD-WAN, switching, and wireless infrastructure under the Fortinet Security Fabric, a centrally managed architecture. A security operations capability using FortiAnalyzer was implemented to give the company’s IT team proactive monitoring and visibility rather than reactive issue resolution.
The architecture also improves Baiada’s ability to segment its network in the event of a cyber incident, a consideration that has become increasingly material for food manufacturers operating complex OT environments.
Baiada Poultry head of IT Infrastructure, John Saba, said, “Together with Fortinet, Ip.Glass helped us reduce management overheads and pressure on our small team while giving us greater control and visibility across the network to prevent any possible downtime.”
Ip.Glass MD, Semyon Taskin, said the outcome reflected deep operational engagement rather than a standard deployment.
“Baiada Poultry’s business is complex, fast-moving, and unforgiving of downtime. By spending time on-site and understanding how its operations run, we have been able to design and support a network that delivers resilience today while providing a base for future automation, growth, and innovation,” Taskin said.
Baiada Poultry has expansion projects underway, including new processing and automated facilities, and said it will continue to build on the modernised platform as it explores further enhancements to OT security and visibility.
