The processing of Steggles products in Ipswich Queensland has ceased as poultry company Baiada moves to further consolidate its manufacturing operations.

Baiada announced plans last August to close down the manufacturing operations at the site, which will now only operate as a distribution centre.

The plant was supplied by 26 Queensland farmers, and the change will see the workforce at the plant reduced from 350 to 100.

Managing director Simon Camilleri told ABC Rural that conditions required the company to consolidate its national processing operations, “meaning we can no longer viably operate the Ipswich facility in the medium to long term”.

In late 2016, Baiada closed its processing operations in Laverton North, Victoria, with that plant also now only operating as a distribution hub employing 100.
