Ten Australian wines took home trophies from this year’s International Wine & Spirits Competition, more than any other wine region in the world. In total, 40 wine trophies were awarded globally. The Margaret River was a stand-out performer, with nine of Australia’s trophies coming from the region, four of them for cabernet sauvignons.

Judges tasted more than 12,000 wines from 90 countries, with Australia winning 25 per cent of trophies, followed by France (15 per cent), Spain (10 per cent), and Portugal (10 per cent). Margaret River taking home nine of the trophies meant nearly a quarter - 22.5 per cent of world’ best wines came from the region.
