Mars Food Australia marketing director Bronwyn Powell has been appointed to the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST) board.

Powell has more than 30 years’ experience in marketing and is a specialist in digital transformation and food innovation.

She has worked for companies including Snackfoods, George Weston Foods (Tip Top Bakeries), SPC Ardmona (Coca-Cola Amatil), McDonald’s Australia, Oporto & Yum! Restaurants International, Kellogg’s, Patak’s, Tip Top, Burgen, Smith’s Crisps and Dolmio.

Powell said she is passionate about brand purpose and food innovation and she loves’ breathing life back into brands.

Notable projects include launching Abbott’s Village Bakery bread and the recent rejuvenation of the 75-year-old Australian pantry staple, MasterFoods.

Powell said: “The Institute provides food scientists and technologists with a unique platform for collaboration and growth that enables the industry to drive the technology and food science innovation required for Australia to meet its future food needs.

“I’m looking forward to using my marketing and digital innovation experience to help enhance the services AIFST provides members and the wider Australian food science community. It’s a wonderful opportunity to contribute on key strategic issues facing the industry in a fast-moving food innovation environment,” she said.

She will join the AIFST Board as a non-executive director of the company for a three-year term from May 2021 to May 2024.
