Whisky brand Glenfiddich has recreated its iconic 1963 Straight Malt in a limited-edition release.

Just 6400 bottles have been released in Australia, each with a $100 RRP, to offer memories of the year Sandy and Charles Grant Gordon launched the product worldwide.

Prior to 1963, blended whisky dominated the market and single malt was only available to limited numbers upon request.

Malt master Brian Kinsman has identically reproduced its fresh and fruity taste by nosing and tasting the original 1963 sample and following the original recipe from one of Glenfiddich’s 1960’s leather-bound ledgers.

Glenfiddich director Peter Gordon says the release is a tribute to his father Sandy and Uncle Charles' achievements.

Glenfiddich invited a select number of family-run Australian businesses to taste the whisky with their customers at a pop-up bar.

William Grant & Sons also launched The Original Grant on 1 June. The nation-wide competition aims to find Australia’s most ‘original’ small or medium-sized business.
