The Australian Walnut Company has launched Vitality Walnut Milk, a long life nut milk, in Melbourne. The walnut growers behind the brand are based in Victoria, with processing also done in the state. The company says its production has minimal environmental impact and maximum health benefits.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has indicated that 40 per cent of Australian households now have plant-based milk in their fridge. As the market for sustainable, vegan, and allergen-free milk alternatives grows, the Australian Walnut Company is highlighting walnut milk as an effective option.

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, polyunsaturated healthy fats, magnesium, B vitamins, and Vitamin E, walnuts contain more protein than any other nut. Aside from the health benefits associated with them, Australian Walnut Company walnut grower, Jeremy Rorke, said that they are more sustainable to grow.

“Walnuts, unlike other nuts, aren’t a thirsty crop – they take less water per kilogram to the finished product than other nuts. They use about half of what almonds do, for example,” said Rorke.

Made and produced locally in Victoria, Vitality Walnut Milk has embraced sustainable practices in the orchards. The Australian Walnut Company growers are addressing the global concern of water scarcity through the use of innovative water management practices and water-efficient irrigation systems.

The growing and harvesting of walnuts boasts the smallest carbon footprint compared with other plant-based competitors, with comparably lower CO2 emissions than almonds and cashews.

The product is a versatile milk with a creamy texture and nutty flavour, which is naturally lactose-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and cholesterol-free, as well as being low in calories.
