A new variety of Southern Comfort whiskey called Black has hit the market.

Featuring subtle spice and fruity accents, it suits those that like a bold whiskey experience, according to the company.

Southern Comfort Black has been blended by master blender Drew Mayville at Buffalo Trace in Kentucky and developed from a proprietary blend of whiskey sourced from Sazerac’s North American whiskey reserves.

Brand manager James Johnstone says the bourbon category has changed, with Australians looking for brands with "provenance, authenticity, and premium blend options".

To support the launch, SouthTrade International will also launch Southern Comfort Black 6% RTD.

A 700ml bottle has a RRP of $54 while the 375ml RTD pack of four is $22.
