Australia’s largest majority-owned-and-operated female brewery, Reckless Brewing Co, has launched its International Women’s Day brew: the Matilda XPA, in honour of the women’s soccer team. All proceeds from the Matilda XPA will go to local charity partner, the Central West Women’s Health Centre.

The launch continues a long-standing tradition from the brewery, with previous IWD releases consisting of Helen Red XPA (celebrating Helen Reddy), Nas XPA (tipping the hat to ABC presenter Nas Campanella), and Frida XPA (Frida Kahlo) launching to popular response.

Reckless co-founder and head of operations Grace Fowler described the beer as a “classic XPA with tropical hops, but dialled back to be super crisp”.

Fowler said crafting the releases was about making the beer experience as inclusive for everyone as possible with a brew that should appeal to a broader audience, while retaining key flavour characters of the style.

“We’ve learnt a lot from our previous XPAs, including our Reckless XPA. Being able to tweak it and make an XPA that’s even more up-front accessible has been fun, and the Matilda XPA is absolutely one of the most fun we’ve had making beer here,” said Fowler.

As with previous IWD releases from Reckless, all proceeds from the sale of Matilda XPA will go towards women’s health, and their local charity partner, the Central West Women’s Health Centre.

“Centres like this do such important work across our cities and regions, whatever we can do to help them in their work makes a huge difference. It’s about making something we’re passionate about, for a cause we’re passionate for,” said Fowler.

Matilda XPA is available from Reckless Brewing Co. in Bathurst online and at participating bottle shops from March.

As 2025 draws to a close, it is clear the packaging sector has undergone one of its most consequential years in over a decade. Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.
