Nutrabalance has launched a nutritional protein-enriched drink, developed to nutritionally support people taking Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications, used to treat Type 2 diabetes and for medical weight loss.

J.P. Morgan Research forecasts the GLP-1 category will exceed US$100 billion by 2030, driven equally by diabetes and obesity usage. Modelling suggests that the total GLP-1 users in the US may number 30 million by 2030, around 9 per cent of the population. Australia is slowly approving use of these medications, although it is difficult to forecast how widespread they may become.

Nutrabalance isn’t the only company making food and drink to support GLP-1 users, with Nestlé already releasing meal options for GLP-1 patients. As supply and demand increases for weight loss drugs, this emerging retail category is expected to develop at a rapid rate.

Nutrabalance started developing its nutritional drink product in May 2023, and launched it in time for the Australian release of a new brand of semaglutide specifically targeting weight loss, Wegovy, in early August 2024.

Created by health and nutrition focused company, Custom Foods, Nutrabalance blends essential nutrients designed to aid nutritional support of individuals in their GPL-1 journey, with each serving containing protein, fibre, prebiotics, vitamins, and minerals.

Nutrabalance chief commercial officer, Cara Mead, said the drink contains 15g of protein to help maintain muscle mass, fibre and prebiotics to aid digestion and gut health, and vitamins and minerals to nutritionally support patients on their GLP-1 journey.

“Nutrabalance is available in three delicious fruit flavours, raspberry, tropical orange, and lemon lime,” said Mead.

“The low-sugar formula is easy to mix with water, making it a convenient daily drink to nourish and replenish the body.”

Key Features:

  • Muscle Mass Maintenance: 15g of high-quality protein per serve to support muscle maintenance.
  • Supporting Gut Health: Nutrabalance contains 2.4g of Biotis Prebiotic, to enhance the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, improving digestive wellbeing and overall gut health.
  • Ensuring Adequate Fibre Intake: Each serving includes up to 2.0 grams of fibre, promoting regular bowel movements and aiding digestive comfort, crucial for those with reduced appetite and food intake.
  • Daily Nourishment and Replenishment: Nutrabalance replenishes the body with essential vitamins and minerals, boosting the immune system and supporting overall health.

Nutrabalance is now available at TerryWhite Chemmart stores and online at nutrabalance.co for RRP $44.99.

Australia has stepped firmly onto the global stage in support of an ambitious treaty to end plastic pollution, with Environment Minister Murray Watt announcing the nation’s commitment during the United Nations Ocean Conference in France. Meanwhile, local environmental leaders are urging the government to back its global words with accelerated domestic action.

Plastic resin made from recycled milk and juice bottles at a Pact-operated recycling facility in Melbourne meets US FDA safety requirements for use in HDPE food and drink packaging.

Packaging and IT recycling operation Close the Loop anticipates its second half EBITDA will fall by 50 per cent compared to the first half, on revenue that at around $99m will be similar to the first six months.
