New Aussie brews are being rolled out in the lead-up to Christmas as brewers large and small showcase their best blends.

A Sydney-based craft brewery, for example, has released its third offering in the form of an easy-drinking lager.

A follow-on from the release of the Philter Extra Pale Ale (XPA) and the "punchy" Red Ale earlier in the year, Philter Lager is described as a "clean, refreshing go-to".

The craft-brewing team behind the Philter brand have sought to celebrate time-honoured Aussie lagers of the 80s through the nostalgic range.

Made for summer with Australian barley and hops, the new lager was crafted by head brewer Sam Füss, who says it has "a classic Aussie lager backbone... with a slight hop aroma".

Lion has also come out with a "hopped-up pale ale showcasing citrus and pine notes with a subtle pineapple flavour".

The 2018 release of James Squire's The Hop Father is the result of a collaboration originating at the Malt Shovel Brewery in Camperdown, Sydney.

The beer's name is a nod to James Squire himself, Australia's first brewer, and The Hop Father has become an annual fixture on Lion's beer release calendar.
