The GlenAllachie is returning to Australia after more than two years away, with The Whisky List (TWL) appointed as its new local distributor.

The first shipment is expected in late October, timed for the Christmas trade, and will be available through selected independent retailers, bars and venues, The Whisky Show, and direct from TWL. Trade pre-orders open ahead of arrival.

TWL is bringing the full core range rather than a single hero bottling, giving the back bar a pour at several price points.

12-Year-Old: 46% ABV, RRP $129. (World’s Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards)

15-Year-Old: 46% ABV, RRP $175

18-Year-Old: 46% ABV, RRP $265

10-Year-Old Cask Strength: 59.8% ABV, RRP $179

11-Year-Old Palo Cortado Sherry Cask Matured: 48% ABV, RRP $155

1990 35-Year-Old Cask Strength: 50.2% ABV, RRP $2499. Matured across Mizunara virgin oak, American virgin oak, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez.

The distillery’s peated range, Meikle Tòir, also returns with first releases due in the coming weeks.

All The GlenAllachie single malts are bottled at natural colour and without chill filtration.

The Whisky List co-founder, Oliver Maruda, said the style suits the market.

“Aussies absolutely love a sherry cask whisky. It’s easily one of the most popular styles here and demand for it continues to grow. Higher ABV, natural colour and non-chill filtration are all things Australian whisky drinkers actively look for, and with The GlenAllachie, they come standard,” he said.

“We don’t simply want to bring The GlenAllachie back into Australia. We want to build it into one of the country’s leading single malt Scotch brands.”

TWL said it will invest across independent retail and on-premise, supported by its trade network, direct-to-consumer platform, whisky festivals, tastings and education programs. The company acquired whisky festival The Whisky Show in early 2024.

The GlenAllachie international sales manager, Ciara Hepburn, said the distillery had taken its time choosing a partner.

“We wanted to take our time to find the right partner to bring the brand back to market,” she said. “We already have a number of exciting things planned for Australia over the next 12 months.”

Founded in 1967 at the foot of Ben Rinnes in Speyside, The GlenAllachie spent most of its history producing whisky for blends. Billy Walker led a consortium that acquired the distillery in 2017 and moved it to age-stated single malt under independent ownership. The distillery marks 10 years under that ownership in 2027.

The GlenAllachie Master Distiller, Billy Walker, said the return had been timed to that run-up.

Packaging News

Australia's environment ministers have declared packaging reform urgent and named soft plastics as an initial priority, but offered no firm timetable or regulatory commitments. SPSA has welcomed the soft plastics focus, while Boomerang Alliance and WMRR have raised concerns about the lack of concrete action.

Economic analysis commissioned by SPSA estimates national recycling reforms could deliver up to $278m in net productivity gains and stimulate up to $2.6b in capital investment each year.

A cross-sector open letter is urging national leaders to agree on a pathway for regulated producer responsibility schemes at the September Environment Ministers Meeting.
