Fuji Gotemba Distillery has launched its first Single Malt Whisky in Australia, in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Established in 1973 by the Kirin Group, Fuji Gotemba Distillery has adopted the world’s leading Scotch, American and Canadian Whisky production technologies, setting it apart from local operations which use traditional methods.

The distillery’s unique location at the base of Mt Fuji has an ideal microclimate and altitude to mature whisky, using naturally filtered snow-melt water perfect for distillation and integral to the Fuji style.

Fuji Single Malt takes inspiration from traditional Scotch single malts and gives it a contemporary Japanese makeover using a combination of ex-Bourbon, beer-aged and French oak red-wine casks.

Fuji Whisky’s master distiller and blender, Jota Tanaka, describes Fuji Single Malt as having aromas of ripe apples and Crème Brûlée, with a palate of white peaches and fruit tart flavours.

“We are excited to release this Single Malt to Australians and share what we are all about at Fuji Gotemba, the world’s only distillery that crafts, mashes, ages and bottles malt and three styles of grain whisky.”

Jota Tanaka is the second person to hold the position of master blender in Japan, and was inducted into the Whisky Magazine Icons of Whisky Hall of Fame in 2022. Tanaka has over 30 years’ experience, and has guided the creation of whisky at Mt Fuji Distillery since 2017.

The product will be distributed in Australia by Sydney-based Vanguard Luxury Brands, which distributes nationwide, catering to the bars, liquor stores, restaurants, and hotels.

Fuji Single Malt joins Fuji Single Grain Japanese Whiskey and Fuji Single Blended Japanese Whisky to form its core range.

With ABV 46 per cent, the 700ml bottle will be available for RRP $140.00 from limited online retailers and in-person venues.
