De Bortoli Wines says its latest release, a tempranillo and touriga blend called Ancient Soils, is a “heartfelt homage to the depth, beauty, and finesse” of the Heathcote region of Victoria.

De Bortoli said the region's fame was rooted in its red Cambrian soil, the result of the gradual decomposition of Cambrian volcanic basalt over more that 500 years.

"The complexity of composition and depth in these exceptional soils offer a window into the history of our Earth. This prehistoric, rust-coloured soil imparts unique characteristics to the grape varietals grown here, capturing the true essence of the region," the winery said.

Ancient Soils is made from the Iberian grape varieties tempranillo and touriga, which are known for their ability to thrive in heat. The grapes have a deep red hue and vibrant purple rim, giving "plum-infused textures and integrated tannins harmonised with notes of dark fruits, spice, and violets".
