Dairy Farmers has hopped on the growing functional food bandwagon, with the release of its new range of Protein Smoothies + Prebiotics, packed with 30g of dairy protein and prebiotics for gut health.

Research commissioned by Dairy Farmers revealed that 9 out of 10 Australians recognise that a protein-rich diet supports overall health, but 40 per cent are still looking for alternative ways to include more protein into their morning routine.

Over 85 per cent of Australians feel more energised and productive when they consume protein in the morning, yet time, effort, cost and limited variety remain key factors for the 42 per cent of respondents that feel they don’t consume enough protein early on in the day.

The new Protein Smoothies + Prebiotics from Dairy Farmers aims to remedy the situation, helping start the day with a Chocolate, Banana Honey, or Mixed Berry treat, containing no added sugar.

Dairy Farmers senior brand manager, Anne Scott, said the range is a convenient and delicious way to include more protein in their mornings, especially for those looking for something quick, and different from the usual savoury options.

“Dairy Farmers is an iconic brand that’s been part of Aussie mornings for generations, and we’re always looking at how we can make great nutrition more accessible,” said Scott.

“Our new Protein Smoothies were designed for real life – whether you’re tackling the morning rush, after a workout, or when you need to pack some Oomph into your day. The texture is light and smooth, and with the authentic taste of a real smoothie, you can enjoy all the benefits of 30g protein and prebiotics.”

Demand for protein-packed dairy drinks has skyrocketed, with category growth up 88 per cent in value over the past three years, according to Circana.

Dairy Farmers dietitian and senior nutritionist, Rachael Adams, said protein plays a crucial role in helping consumers stay fuller for longer and supporting strength and energy throughout the day.

“Including it in your morning routine sets you up to feel your best. Not only does dairy contain all essential amino acids, but it’s also highly bioavailable, meaning your body absorbs and uses it more efficiently than many plant based options,” said Adams.

Dairy Farmers Protein Smoothies are now available in Chocolate, Banana Honey, and Mixed Berry at major retailers across Australia for RRP $2.90.

Packaging News

ACOR is calling on the Government to urgently introduce packaging reforms or risk the collapse of Australia’s plastic recycling sector and face millions of tonnes of plastic waste polluting the environment.

As 2025 draws to a close, it is clear the packaging sector has undergone one of its most consequential years in over a decade. Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.
