Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut is turning up the heat at breakfast with the launch of its new Hot Honey flavour cereal, combining the brand’s signature crunch and sweetness with a touch of spicy heat.

Available for a limited time at Coles and Woolworths nationally, Crunchy Nut Hot Honey flavour taps into the growing appeal of sweet-and-spicy flavour combinations, bringing the hot honey trend to the breakfast aisle

Xavier Shortal, marketing director of Mars Snacking, said the new flavour was inspired by the popularity of hot honey as an ingredient.

“Hot honey has become a go-to ingredient for people looking to elevate everyday food favourites, and we saw an opportunity to bring that same sense of discovery to breakfast,” Shortal said.

The launch is being supported by research commissioned by Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut, exploring Australians’ appetite for both sweet and spicy experiences in food and relationships.

The research found 45 per cent of singles are attracted to traditionally “sweet” qualities such as kindness, warmth and reliability, while an equal proportion are looking for a combination of sweet and spicy traits, including confidence, spontaneity and a sense of adventure.

Crunchy Nut is extending this positioning beyond the breakfast bowl with a campaign centred on “Sweet & Spicy Cereal Dating”, connecting the new flavour with changing attitudes towards modern dating.

The brand will host a free breakfast dating event for around 60 Sydney singles at The Depot in Bondi, where participants can meet over bowls of Crunchy Nut Hot Honey flavour cereal.

Hosted with dating and relationship expert, Nicole Colantoni, the event is designed to bring the research to life while positioning breakfast as a more casual setting for first dates.

The launch reflects Crunchy Nut’s focus on adding a sense of discovery to an everyday breakfast occasion, with Hot Honey providing a new flavour proposition for consumers seeking something beyond traditional cereal varieties.

Crunchy Nut Hot Honey flavour cereal is available at Coles and Woolworths nationally for a limited time, while stocks last.

Packaging News

The September edition of The Packaging Innovation Edit, presented by PKN in collaboration with ThePackHub, spans materials science, circularity and consumer experience, showing how innovation can occur at very different points in the packaging lifecycle.

New European rules on generic environmental claims have prompted the Australasian Bioplastics Association to warn that packaging carrying poorly substantiated claims could be marketed in Australia.

Australia's environment ministers have declared packaging reform urgent and named soft plastics as an initial priority, but offered no firm timetable or regulatory commitments. SPSA has welcomed the soft plastics focus, while Boomerang Alliance and WMRR have raised concerns about the lack of concrete action.
