Constellation Brands has launched lower-in-alcohol wine brand State of Light to its line-up, with an initial three varieties all sourced from New Zealand.

The Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé wines have 35 per cent less calories and 45 per cent less alcohol, according to Constellation Brands, as the range looks to target those shifting towards mindful drinking or considered consumption of alcohol.

The Pinot Gris and Rosé are both sourced from Hawkes Bay, while the Sauvignon Blanc is made from wine grapes in the Marlborough region.

“A common perception is that all lower alcohol wines are poor quality and have less flavour, which is simply not true,” said State of Light head winemaker Brett Fullerton.

“To achieve the reduced alcohol content in State of Light wines, a vacuum steam distillation winemaking process called the ‘spinning cone method’ is used, which carefully separates and preserves each varietal’s distinct regional characteristics whilst de-alcoholisation takes place.”

The new State of Light range is now available from RRP $23.00 at Dan Murphy’s, BWS and First Choice Liquor Market stores around Australia.
