Diageo brand, Johnnie Walker, is launching Johnnie Walker Black Ruby to the Australian market with a splash. In collaboration with Newtown, Sydney, bar Pleasure Club, the brand is hosting a week-long artist residency with featured Black Ruby cocktails.

Black Ruby is the latest permanent addition to the brand’s portfolio, a smooth blended Scotch whisky with vibrant notes of fruit flavour. Designed by master blender, Emma Walker, Black Ruby combines sweet fruity malts matured in ex wine, PX Oloroso and bourbon casks with vanilla toffee malts from Johnnie Walker’s Roseisle distillery.

The tasting notes describe the whisky as having currents of rich raspberry jam and blackberry pie with a deep honeyed sweetness, and bold notes of figs, plums and maraschino cherries with a hint of spice and a delicate smoke finish.

Johnnie Walker is bringing Black Ruby to Pleasure Club with “Ruby Dreams” – an artist residency headlined by singer Vera Blue, a model-turned-musician public debut from Sarah Ellen, and a four-night residency for burlesque dancer Porcelain Alice.

Pleasure Club bartender and Australia’s recent Diageo World Class winner, Jake Down, will be curating limited-edition Black Ruby cocktails for the bar.

The event will begin on 14 August, with a debut performance from Sarah Ellen’s band, Pamela. From 15-17 August, singer-songwriter, Vera Blue, will also perform as part of the Ruby Dreams artist residency. The free sets will focus on reimagined versions of her back catalogue, with sneak peeks of new music.

“Fans are in for a surprise – this residency is truly like nothing else I’ve performed before,” said Blue.

“My band and I have created a unique show featuring electric instrumental arrangements with dark electronic tones, and can’t wait to take the audience on a multi-sensory experience. I’m so excited to be a part of the Ruby Dreams artist residency with Johnnie Walker and Pleasure Club.”

Johnnie Walker Black Ruby 700mL is currently available at Dan Murphy’s for $64.95, and at BWS for $79.00.
