New Zealand company, Abe’s Bagels, is jumping on the high-protein trend and giving breakfast a protein-packed upgrade – with the launch of Australia’s first high-protein bagel.

Recent research conducted by Abe’s Bagels found that 28 per cent of Australian shoppers consider protein content an important factor in their food choices. Designed to help health conscious consumers fuel their mornings, the Protein Bagel is perfect as a post-workout breakfast, or for anyone wanting to stay fuller for longer.

Each bagel is packed with:

  • 12 grams of pea protein per serve – the equivalent of 2 large eggs, 100 grams of cottage cheese, or around 250 grams of Greek Yoghurt. Pea protein is great for muscle building, plant-based, is easily digestible and contains all nine essential amino acids.
  • 30 per cent fewer carbs than a standard bagel, with only 206 calories per serving.
  • 17.6 grams of fibre per serve – around half of the recommended daily intake for adults

Abe’s Bagels head of marketing, Catherine Parlane, said the demand for protein packed foods is soaring, especially among gym goers and women, as research continues to show just how important protein is for health conscious consumers.

“That’s exactly why we created the Protein Bagel – it’s full of the good stuff people want, while keeping the classic flavour and chewiness we’re known for,” said Parlane.

“Protein is on the rise globally. We’re excited to introduce a delicious option for fuelling active lifestyles and we can’t wait to see our Protein Bagels flying off the shelves.”

Abe’s Protein Bagels are now available in supermarkets and food outlets across Australia for RRP $5.50 in a four-pack.
