China-based ingredients company, BGG, has opened a global headquarters in Basel, Switzerland as it completes a restructuring plan. It will operate as BGG World.

Its newly appointed CEO is Jürgen Nelis and global commercial director, Thomas Adler, have been appointed to spearhead the company’s international corporate strategy.

BGG is family owned and has been operating for more than 25 years. It is looking to expand its international customer and partner base.

The company also announced it is diversifying into the food ingredients sector, starting with its existing stevia and liquorice extract solutions.

“Centralising critical international functions in Switzerland will streamline the alignment of BGG’s offer with its customers’ own strategies, meeting their needs more efficiently and enhancing risk mitigation within the global supply chain,” the company said.

BGG World CEO, Jürgen Nelis, said, “As we internationalise our organisational structure and operating model, we will be investing heavily in our commercial organisation. We are currently hiring several sales managers in Europe and the US, and by doing so we will more than double our customer-facing resources in these key markets.

“At the same time, BGG will continue to invest in its asset base and in human clinical trials for its core products.”

The move also BGG to leverage “significant” market opportunities that exist for its technology platforms and product portfolio.

BGG founder and principal shareholder, Chunhua Li, said, “We strongly believe that our three leading technology platforms – botanical extraction, enzymatic conversion, and micro-algae farming – combined with continuous investment in clinical trials, will provide our customers with high-value, sustainable business potential for the long-term future.”
